Rutger Beke recovering from early-stage atypical pneumonia; Bert Jammaer resumes training

19 April 2011 – Good news for Rutger Beke and Bert Jammaer. Both Uplace athletes have overcome the health issues they had been dealing with for the past weeks.

On April 10, Rutger Beke had to retire from the Ironman South Africa with a persistent cough and respiratory problems. A check-up revealed the early stages of an atypical pneumonia. He was treated with antibiotics and has been cleared to resume training tomorrow. This means Rutger can start the preparation for his next race, the Ironman Texas on 21 May.

Bert Jammaer, who had been diagnosed with mononucleosis in March, has been okay’d to start training as well. Over the past two weeks, he has gradually increased his training load.
